MBA Pro Bono case

Recommended Posts

Anyone know about this case? I have some questions -

Does the plan make all students of law school serve?

If so, how do they have the credentials to provide representation in court without actually being lawyers/attorneys?

And, is the sixth amendment change extra T?

EDIT: i've seen the outline, just wondering about these things..

the plan gives money to allow more law students to engage in pro bono work.

problem is (shh dont tell) there isnt a program within americorps that does this, the program they give money to is a grant recipient of Americorps.

and 6th amendment probably isnt too extra T in this case because they use it as a method to get more people doing pro bono work, just like any other effects plan.

I'm pretty sure the answer to this one is a big NO. So far as I know, a non-licensed person may represent herself/himself, but not others...

Most states have a 3rd year practice rule that could apply in situations like this. A student in his or her third year can appear in court under the supervision of a licensed attorney, under some circumstances.

I would guess the extra money they give is to fund supervising attorneys.

Seems like a good candidate for a states counterplan, since states regulate attorney practice.

does the plan just give money so they can do pro bono work on their own time?
