Metros and Weather

Recommended Posts

HI, As some of you have no doubt heard, there is a chance that we will see some sort of ice/snow event on Friday. Currently, the National Weather Service is calling for mostly rain between now and Friday evening with a slight chance of snow on Friday evening around Midnight or so. At any rate, the are calling for less than a 1/2 inch of snow.

At this time the Metro-Final tournament is still on as scheduled. WACFL is in consultation with Loundon County and Dominion High School officials to monitor the school situation for tomorrow (at this time school is still scheduled.) I will post any additional information to this thread as soon as I have it.

The contingency plan for the tournament seems to be that if necessary we would run the entire tourney - minus the elimination rounds - on Saturday 3/17. It would just put all 6 rounds of debate into one day.

The message is - think Rain!!:)

Mr. H.

its not that bad because judges can't disclose or call for evidence and there is only 5 minutes of prep ;) . the 3 rounds on friday night are the rough part.

honestly i'd rather do 6 in one day than have to debate on friday after a day of school... its so exhausting debating after school. plus we'd get another night to prep haha

also what happens if we get bad weather on friday night... would saturday ever be cancelled?

As you know, Loudoun County cancelled Friday activities. At present, we are still planning to conduct Metrofinals on Saturday.

We will, however, operate on a modified schedule starting at 9:30 AM, not 8 AM due to Loudoun County needing to ensure that the parking lot and sidewalks are accessible and safe.

From a tournament perspective, we will be running 5 rounds, back-to-back as quickly as possible - minimal to no breaks between rounds. Dominion will have concessions available throughout the day. Please tell your students and judges to be prepared. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this regard.

If Loudoun County cancels Saturday activities, we will not be able to hold the tournament and we will post the notice as soon as possible. Loudoun County anticipates being able to make the decision between 5:30 AM and 6 AM.

The makeup date will be March 30th and 31st at a location to be confirmed.

We appreciate your patience and I would like to thank Sheryl Gusman and the administration of Dominion High School for all of their assistance as we try to manage this challenging situation.

If you have any questions, please contact the event VPs.

Loudoun County has advised that LD/Policy Metrofinals at Dominion High School can be held today, Saturday, 3/17, HOWEVER, maintenance crews need until 9:30 AM to clear sidewalks and the parking lot.

What does this mean? If you arrive at Dominion prior to 9:30 AM, and crews are still clearing the sidewalks and 1st parking lot, DO NOT attempt to enter the building. PROCEED to the bus loop via the 2nd entrance and hold there until we are cleared to enter. [/b]They anticipate being ready for us at 9:30 AM.

We appreciate your cooperation and will see you at Dominion at 9:30 AM!! :)

Thank you!
