Critical Affs on the Topic

Recommended Posts

Borders would be a good adv. on this topic. By focusing on a region that needs assistance rather than a country, the affirmative advocacy helps degrade the system of borders, etc. Good call.

But Sub-Saharan is a border in itself...Might help degrade, but wouldn't solve for. It would be a linear advantage without complete solvency. Also, CP give aid to ALL africa would be better...

You know what solves all those worries? D&G. Seriously people need to listen to me on that one. I won't have the partner to run the aff but I'm still going to cut it and give it away to someone. The lit for that is phat.

For those of you that were looking at reading a Lacanian aff and don't feel like doing something for which the lit is minimal like nuking Africa I reccomend checking out Desiring Whiteness by Kalpana Seshadri-Crooks.

(this may be a stupid question) but what would be the Plan Text on that...?

Pan-African Socialist Revolutions...?

Who needs a plan text for a kritikal aff? You don't use fiat if you're going kritikal, silly.

That's not necessarily true Will. For example Mary and I read a Zizek aff that most certainly does have a plan text.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES SHOULD ISSUE AN EXECUTIVE ORDER MANDATING THE MARSHALLING OF ALL US CITIZENS WHO ARE NOT CURRENTLY TARGETS AS MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES TO REPLENISH TROOP STRENGTH AND ESTABLISH DEATH SQUADS. THESE DEATH SQUADS WILL HAVE THE EXPLICIT MISSION TO ROUND UP AND EXECUTE ALL ISLAMOFASCISTS RESIDING INSIDE THE UNITED STATES AN IN ISLAMIC NATIONS AROUND THE GLOBE. WE’LL CLARIFY.

The real question lies in want sort of tricks can the aff pull out in the 2ac or will the aff actually defend the plan text. While not all critical affirmatives have to use fiat some still can.

She makes the argument in this book that Lacan's theories regarding sexual difference also have applicability to race. They are just identities we try to establish for ourselves but just as "a man is never fully a man and a woman is never fully a woman" one is never completely white, black, hispanic, asian, etc. It's this incompleteness that causes many of these "race wars" throughout the world and fosters the racist foreign and domestic policies we see every day. I personally think this book would be fantastic for next year. But I've got a slightly different project at the moment that I like a little bit more, still it's an argument I think someone should make.

I like a good debate. Best when both sides are prepared.

Plan: The United States shall ratify subpoints 13 and 14 of the U.N.'s Durban Declaration and Programme of Action.

Ok thats way cool, but why bother with the unpredicatble tie to the resolution. Why not just frame a better topic, and have a topical aff on it. If the way the community frames the discusion of africa is bad why not decolonize that and self determine your own direction.

Find a bitching alt card and defend it as an advocacy. I think you can probably talk pretty effectively about racism in regards to Africa and American Foreign Policy. You probably wouldn't be defending a plan text and you'd probably be critiquing T but if anyone decides to go through with this aff I have a Lacanian critique of T I can hook you up with.

I think that the best form of a critical Affirmative on the topic will be one with two advantages, the first being a generic war impact (maybe soft power but probably something signficantly more concrete) and solving for AIDS. The impact for AIDS should be reading the absolutely amazing Elbe evidence which indicates that AIDS is a massive form of biopower, and limiting it even if securitizing it in the process is the best way to solve biopower. That way you garner a solid advantage versus DA's as well as a powerful critical advantage that you can solve for on the representational level.

ohh, I can just imagine it now

1. biopower high now

2. plan solves most of biopower

3. biopower=nuke war
