not bad, not the most liberal but I think it is pretty correct.

And FYI most of the CXers on my team would prolly be somewhere around that

I don't think you can simply put a label on either liberal or conservative, because I doubt that anyone educated in debate would agree full-heartedly with either side.

But if I had to pick one side most debaters are on, I tihnk they would probably be more sympathetic toward liberals.

I can think of several that go left on everything and some do go right.

Am I the only one who finds it mildly amusing that Hobbes would be his chosen avatar?

Hobbes as a character is supposed to be ironic, and amusing.

Yes the tiger could be replaced at any point by a penguin, dog, or any other animal that Morgan Freeman has had in a movie.

Not entirely true, some of the strips would have lost their tiger jokes.

I'm not really surprised by the poll. It seems like for some reason a vast majority of debaters are in fact liberal to one extent or another. I agree that this is often humerous when private school kids in Armani suits are espousing socialism or Marx or some other ideology by which they would be the ones that would get screwed over.

I think the overall liberal ideology of the debate community may have something to do with debate teachers/coaches being a big political influence. Most people accept as common knowledge the fact that the NEA and most teachers tend to be liberal.

Yes while every resolution is a liberal one and almost all the K's that are becoming a dominating part of champ debate are nearly socalist. Of course you can still run this stuff and be conservative. I do it and still am to the right.

You could probably trace the fact that most resolutions are liberal to the fact that the people who come up with the ideas are former debaters (who were influenced by liberal topics, etc, on and on).

This topic can go either way. While AmeriCorps and Peace Corps are probably, yes, more liberal cases, Citizen Corps (spy on your neighbor, c'mon) and the Armed Forces (rather obviously) end up on the conservative side of the table.

Nobody seems to run citizen corps though. And most of the armed forces cases are DADT.

Citizen Corps is just a bad organization - not the fault of the resolution-makers.

I've hit DADT/DADP only once this year, I think...and I've hit other Armed Forces, be it Coast Guard, linguists, incentives, PMCs, or draft many more.

The only reason more people don't run draft is because it was predicated as the most-run case of the year. The original resolution was built around it.

The only reason? How about the generality that a militarism kritik will beat the crap out of a draft case?

Maybe because the militarism kritik will not beat the crap out of a draft case?

I agree that the draft is not one of the best plans ever, but simply saying it links to the militarism k is not a reason to say that it is the worst cases ever. If this were so, no teams would be runnning DADT or WICA either.

If it weren't so predictable, the draft run with straight hege advantage is not a bad case (assuming you know how to beat a Kritik).

When people start throwing in racism or social advantages, though...

EDIT: Funny enough, the only guy in the House actually bringing up the draft as a proposed policy is Charles Rangel, a New York Democrat. Go figure.

Rangel only brings up the draft because he claims having the rich in the armed forces will mean that we don't invade iran and get out of Iraq. He doesn't claim any advantage militarily.

Yeah but good ol' Charlie voted against it though.

But then he changed his mind again.

Thus proving that not all democrats are as thoughtful and decisive as John Kerry. ;)
