About This File

After looking at this week’s scenarios, I decided to write a comprehensive immigration reform file. I feel comprehensive immigration reform is the best scenario for three reasons:

  1. It has the best uniqueness cards: the NEG should be well ahead on the will pass now debate.
  2. The impacts are enormous: no troubles with turn the case arguments with immigration reform, especially because you can access both the skilled and unskilled worker debate.
  3. There is some nuance on major politics arguments: there are tricks to answer both the “Obama isn’t using capital anymore†argument and the thumpers debate.

My goal is to produce a file that would provide the foundation for your

impact and internal link work for the rest of the semester. Immigration reform isn’t likely to pass quickly, which gives you some time to flesh out your internal link and impact arguments. For the shell, I went with the combo package of economic and military leadership, figuring you could access the internal links to any AFF with that package. However, I also included numerous modules you could adapt to be your primary impact scenario that could also turn many AFF’s. Look to US-India relations, US-Latin America relations, and science diplomacy for impacts you could substitute in the shell and then explode in the block.

For the high school topic, don’t forget the trick that skilled workers are needed for infrastructure projects. They can fund the proposal all they want, if they don’t have workers on the ground, the proposal can’t be built, short-circuiting their solvency. I also included some NEG updates for debt ceiling and the Hagel nomination.

The AFF work covers immigration reform, gun control, the debt ceiling, and the Hagel nomination. For the AFF, I would try and make the NEG skirt the narrow divide between the thumpers and their link…if the fights on gun control and the debt ceiling aren’t sufficient to trigger the link, the plan is probably not enough either.

Good luck at the Barkley Forum or wherever this weekend’s travels take you. It’s a big week for politics, but it should be a fun one. If you have any questions about the file, feel free to shoot me an email at rwlcgalloway@gmail.com
