Below is the current version of the standard rule set. As it may change over time (even while you are debating), the version you wish to use should be copied to the first post of your round.

![]() How To Word Count In OpenOffice There are other ways, but this is the easiest to follow 1) Have all the words you want to count underlined. This includes tags and cites 2) Find + Replace (Control + f) 3) Click "More Options" 4) Click "Attributes" 5) Check the "Underline" box and press "Ok" 6) Clear the form labeled "Search for" (There should be nothing there) 6) Click "Find All" 7) Click "Close" 8) On the top, choose Tools --> Word Count Last edited by aburo; December 12th, 2009 at 12:43 AM. |

Another way to do this is to right click on some underlined text and then click select text with similar formatting. If you then run word count, it will only count highlighted words.
You would still have to manually highlight tags and analytics though |

Im not sure if macs have the same thing, but you can use the "select text with similar formatting" tool

are you guys using wysiwyg editor on the mac? seems like it would work just as well...
also - if you go into find/replace and press option-u, what happens? alt-u? |

This is old, but the Mac command for underlining in most text editor is ctrl-u. There is no alt key on a Mac; option is the Mac alt key.

I am trying to post a speech but I have Windows 2007, so how do you access the WYSIWYG editor on 07?

WYSIWYG is part of the cross-x site, and my faq was written with 2007.

HOW TO TURN ON THE WYSIWYG EDITOR
First, go to your User CP. In the left column, click on "Edit Options." ![]() Now scroll all the way down to the bottom. Under "misc options" you can change your editor box. Change it to "Enhanced Interface." ![]() Save changes. Now when you copy and paste formatted text to a message box on cross-x, it should save the formatting. It is possible that if you have an old operating system or funky browser it won't work. But this should work for most people. I don't recommend using the WYSIWYG editor for everyday use. It will get on your nerves. Just so ya'know.

You sacrifice versatility and power for that automation.
Of course, it may just be me. I think everyone should throw out MS Office and learn to write in LaTeX.

I am not arguing, I really have no idea. I think it's been enabled the whole time I've been on cross-x. It also doesn't work for pasting in underlined and bold text, I have to use Synergy's tricks for that. |

What I have been doing is creating two Word documents at one time - one for the speech that I will post and one for the word count. I copy and paste all of the underlined parts and parts that I am reading into the word count document as I go along and keep track of my word count that way. Hope this helps.
