It is a tough time in politics. Obama has spent the past week in Asia and talking to Australians about vegemite and Australian Rules football. Not a whole lot is going on –
Payroll Tax Cuts Disad – this is probably your best bet for a disad. White House has planned an end of the year strategy to bring up Payroll Taxes to force the GOP to take a stand. They expire at the start of 2012. Essentially it is a cut to the amount of taxes you have to pay to social security in your check that you [assuming you have a job] receive. Basically, the amount of money taken out of everyone’ paycheck would go up. The economy internal link cards are quite good.
The best aff answers are based around the fact that uniqueness is still tenuous. In going for the disad you should focus on making the impact to economic decline as large as possible, and harping on the fact that the economic impact hits in January when that tax is back in people’s pay checks.
China Disad – this is an inclusion of the old Thursday file. You need to spend some time thinking about your political capital link story if you stick with this disad. Essentially Boehner has said he won’t allow the House to vote on it because it is a de facto announcement of a trade war. Your disad could focus on costing his capital and that being your spin. Obama has also previously said he would veto but hasn’t mentioned it in about 3 weeks or so, so it is difficult to say what he would do. It is a good disad to read if you don’t really want to go for the politics disad because there aren’t any uniqueness cards going the other way and it is difficult to impact turn “US-China relations” [though obviously not impossible].
The rest are aff answers to other scenarios that people will be reading.
I didn’t do a lot of “thumpers” work on upcoming fights because those are mostly budget related. If that is your thing you should could pull the PC key cards from the Payroll disads to read as extensions and then just prepare to debate the Payroll disad without thumpers.
